A Most Precious Gift
It was a bit more than twenty centuries ago that God bestowed upon us a gift. A gift unlike anything we could possibly imagine. It was not a princely gift, it far surpasses any kingly gift. It was in fact a Godly gift. On that day, oh so many years ago, our heavenly Father gave to us an eternal heavenly gift of life through His Son, Jesus the Christ.
During this busy holiday season, you’ll find behind the hussle and bussle, under the commercialism, TV Hype and ads, a story. It is a story filled with childlike wonder, a story of truth faith. It is the story behind the meaning of the season. It is, in fact, the story of life. It is the story of redemption, of the discovery of possibilities, of seeing past the material and the ordinary and it pulls at us in ways we are rarely able t understand but almost always are able to feel.
One of the ways we express our feeling s generated by this gift is music. The music of the season, the carols, hymns, wassails and melodies are made and sung in responses to our beliefs. It is more than in ourselves or each other, that we have this belief. It is our belief in god and His powers which are so vastly beyond our humble understandings. This music is resonating refrain of greater tolerance and understanding that can lead us to a year-round attitude of peace and goodwill toward our fellow man. Kindness generosity, spirituality and love are the blessings of Christmas, and just a few of the gifts which spring from the fellowship we share as followers of Christ and of being citizens of the world.
God has offered us a second chance. In return all He asks is that we believer in His Son and His potential to change us, to make us more considerate of others, to help us show love and to be receptive of love.
Christmas is a season of hope and caring, a time when selfishness and the thoughtless become more thoughtful. It is a gift of the heart, a gift held close by our children, who when they fall asleep on Christmas Eve are almost giddy with anticipation over something wonderful that awaits us all in the bright clear light of the morning.
Please, make no mistakes, something wonderful awaits us all. We merely need to reclaim the simple and unbroken trust we had as children. A belief in the gift of the season and the unlimited possibilities that Jesus offers us. After all, isn’t that what Christianity is all about, the possibility if eternal life if we only hold Christ in our hearts?
Ebenezer Scrooge said it quite well; “I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” When we hold Christ in our hearts a most precious gift, the gift of eternal life is our. So may we all. Chef Sykes.
